What is RouterConsole?

RouterConsole is a new and improved router simulator, intended to help you prepare for your Cisco® CCNA™ exams and to provide CCNA™ candidates with the means of acquiring important practical skills for their exams and for the real life. I created it because I considered that the existing router simulators are too far from a real router. I hope that this software will indeed help you succeed.

What RouterConsole brings new?

There are a lot of new features you won't find in other router simulators:

excellent error control – RouterConsole's design is intended to take care of all details and possible errors. Command parameters are carefully checked and if they don't fit, the appropriate error message is triggered. The '^' marker really points to the error, a feature I missed when preparing for my own exams. Screen shot

the full list of enhanced editing commands is implemented (over 20 combinations)

the “Learning Labs” tutorials help you understand the basics of routers. Screen shot

the software implements the “most wanted” commands and features for a router simulator:

- ping and extended ping
- telnet
- traceroute
- setup – all flavours
- key sequences (Ctrl-Shift-6 x, Ctrl-Break, Ctrl-Z, Ctrl-C)
- ROM Monitor is implemented; of course reload and password recovery!
- there is even a sketch of RXBOOT (boot from ROM)

last, but not least, “Home Labs” simulations have over 40 (in the full version) troubleshooting and configuration scenarios to help you pass over simulations phobia! Solving those scenarios within a time limit will let you objectively evaluate your skills before trying the real exam. Screen shot

No, of course it is not perfect, and it's fair that you know what RouterConsole has not. Creating your own network is not (yet) implemented, and is not my top priority for the next version. The next version will contain OSPF and will try to completely cover the CCNA™ exam. Meantime, I prepare other surprises for you. Bookmark this page and come back soon. - you can configure the router only with setup privileged mode command, because global config mode is not available
- you have only 5 home labs
